Caring for your Minilala Nappies

There are many misconceptions about washing cloth nappies. Our nappies do not require soaking (in fact, please don't soak or bleach them!), or many products at all. They will need a pre-wash before wearing (bamboo may need a few washes before it is at maximum absorbency), that is fine done in cold or warm water only. Powder is not necessary for the pre-wash.

Washing Instructions : After taking the nappy off your baby, scrape, roll, or hose any excess solids into the toilet, store in a lidded dry pail (nappy bucket) with the tabs folded into the laundry tabs (so things don't get stuck together in the wash). Machine wash in cold or warm water only (not hot as it can damage your nappy) with about 1/4 the washing powder you would use for a regular wash (use additive free powder only). Rinse again after the wash in cold water. Line dry in the sun. Do not tumble dry.

Do not use fabric softeners or soap flakes as they may coat the nappy, making it less absorbent. Do not use Napisan or other whiteners or bleaches.

If using nappy rash cream, use a liner to protect the nappy.

It is recommended that you 'strip wash' your nappies every now and then to reduce smells and stains. The strip wash is also important to rid the nappies of any detergent build up, which can cause leaks (if you are finding build up happens quickly, you may need to consider using less, or even a different brand of washing powder). To do this, wash the nappies on your machine's warm to hot cycle (not above 60 degrees celcius), with the addition of a little dishwashing liquid, then rinse well so that all the detergent is out.
